Days 179-182…snowmageddon 2013

Snuggly blizzard days…

Our furnace decided it didn’t want to work on the first day of the blizzard…luckily the snow wasn’t too bad yet so the plumber came and three hours later heat was back…but I broke the no bed rule that morning so we could all snuggle and stay warm until the heat was fixed!

Total hibernation mode with the storm in full force!

I was scouring the internet to keep busy instead of doing homework…wooops…and I found this shirt which I need to buy my husband when he gets home.

I continued with kitchen demolition-mania!  I really want cabinets that go the whole way to the ceiling!  Seriously, why would they put a false front above the cabinets?  It just closes the room off so much!

Which is why I SLEDGEHAMMERED THEM DOWN!  Woohoo!!! Ok, ok…I will admit the demo process gives me a bit of a power trip…

Couldn’t open back door….unacceptable, Nemo!  Not cool.

Chloe said, screw this, I am not even going out there!!!!!!! I had to shovel a path for Miss Princess.

Jack was loving it!

Yeah…those are our cars…

I am finding no joy in this storm…no sledding or skiing for me…not even thinking about it.

The puppies had created a pretty intricate system of pathways for themselves by day two…

While snowed in, I decided to do some p90x…I got about 20 minutes through Plyo…not my strong suit!  So I lifted instead.

Day 2 I attempted to shovel…

After about 15 minutes I said OH HELL NO and went in search of neighbors with snow blowers…

My faith in humanity was reinforced when my neighbor across the street came to help me out after I went up to him and his snow blower and pathetically said, ” I will pay you ANYTHING to come and do my driveway next…anything…”

Him and his son came over and did the whole driveway…so sweet.  I gave them a card with $20 even though they didn’t want to take it, and explained that my husband is deployed and there is no way I could’ve shoveled myself out.  They were so nice.  And today I saw them sneak over and shovel out the area the city plow had messed up so that I could get out if I needed to.  Made my heart happy:)

I enjoyed most of the day with a puppy blanket and hot tea…my friend’s town lost power so she drove up to stay with us after the travel ban was lifted…we watched movies and did yoga…

I got a new furry brown yoga block…

p90x yoga…awesome!

Of course the dogs had to do their own practice after we were done…

I enjoy doing yoga in my tropical colored pjs in hopes that when I am done it will magically be summer…

I watched the two most amazing and inspiring movies today on Netflix…like life-changing awe inspiring films…you need to go watch them now.

180 degrees south is a beautiful documentary about leaving the industrial world behind to climb, surf, and preserve nature in Patagonia in South America…I want to be the random surfer horseback rider girl that joins the adventure halfway through.  She literally is this beautiful island woman who just exudes happiness and confidence.  I was so inspired by her.

The Way is the Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez movie that won all kinds of awards.  Charlie Sheen’s son dies trying to do a pilgrimage hike from France to Spain and so he goes over there and ends up completing the journey for him, leaving behind his cushy life in the states.

Both movies made me crave summer adventures…warm weather, hiking, and doing new and awesome things is going to keep me going until spring gets here…I simply cannot wait to set out and do new things soon!

But for now…we are snowed in…

Guess we will just nap first…

Days 124 125 & 126…lots of yoga and workout fun!

What a good weekend!  To start off on my last day before break on Friday, my boss gave me the sweetest Christmas gift…so silly, and I love it!

On Saturday, I taught two yoga classes back to back…my usual vinyasa, then my nice new restorative class I took over this week…it is such a departure from my usual style to teach a class where you hold the poses for a few minutes at a time and use blankets and blocks…but it was super relaxing!  And of course it was an excuse for a whole new playlist…always fun!

After yoga, it was a lazy afternoon, but I didn’t want to waste the nice day, so I took the pups for a nice drive down to the rustic beach we love…it’s an hour drive but there was nothing else to do anyway…we only walked for 15 minutes cuz other people were there with dogs, which freaked out my two and so we had to turn back, but I think it’ll be a super fun walk someday when it’s snowy and no one else is there!

They had a lot of fun even though we weren’t there long…

After the beach they were so tired…it was a nice relaxing night!

Later on, I did some spin and lifted weights…then I watched “Waiting for Superman” on Netflix…what a powerful movie…it was really great and highlights so many of the reasons that I have trouble wanting to work in education someday but getting upset with all the politics of it.  And those kids are all so precious!

Sunday was awesome too…pilates/yoga in the morning and one of my regular students and his daughter gave me a nice gift card for Christmas!  How sweet!  We did a special meditation on peace and bringing peace and compassion to ourselves and the world.  Everyone needs to do their part to be peaceful and compassionate in order for that ideal to become realized in the world.

I got to talk to hubby today which was great!  We were supposed to skype, but his internet is down, so that was sad, but it was so nice hearing his voice and getting to talk all about our week.  I miss him so much…sometimes it’s so hard to really think about why he’s gone and how long he’s been away over the years…but I focus on staying positive and not dwelling on things that can’t be changed.  In the end, it is just going to be so amazing to have him back in the spring.  I just hope that the next few months fly by and are full of blessings and positive things.

Again, with this weather, I had another lazy day with the dogs…watching Pitbulls and Paroles, reruns of Buffy (LOVE that show and miss it!), and HGTV.

Had to burn off some energy so I did the p90x Kenpo tape around 8…I love kickboxing…it makes you feel so strong!  Now it’s time to rest, and then wake up bright and early for a big job interview in the city tomorrow!  Wish me luck!

Day 114…back to p90x shape!

Definitely started the day off on the right foot…getting back into P90X!  I really miss being my old jacked self, and even though I love dance and yoga, I really need to get back into lifting.  My old routine isn’t cutting it so I am going back to the p90x approach!  When I used to do these dvds, it kicked my butt, and I LOVE Tony Horton’s approach to fitness…what people don’t realize is most of the workouts are very basic lifts and fitness routines…he just adds on neat twists and modifications to get your muscles really guessing.  I also love that he combines basically every aspect of fitness into his workouts…strength, cardio, endurace, flexibility, speed…it’s all there.  Of course, I’m going to focus mostly on the strength dvds this time around, because I get a lot of my workouts in with dance and yoga during the week already (although I am super excited to add in at least one of the plyo and kenpo workouts a week too…they are fun!)  20121205-124705.jpg

I have to just gush a little more about how awesome the paint job in the living room turned out!  I am SO happy it’s finally done, and every time I walk into the room it’s a huge feeling of comfort and happiness…I LOVE the color:)

Since I woke up early and worked out, it was only proper to then cuddle with the cute puppies the rest of the day!

It’s amazing how small this little monster can make herself when she wants to look cute!

And the handsome boy just likes to look out the window all night…squirrels?  Racoons?

Cuddle party on the couch!
